According to PeckShieldAlert, approximately 16 major crypto-attacks were recorded in August 2025, resulting in total losses of $163 million, a 15% increase from the $142 million recorded in July. BtcTurk suffered its second major security breach in just over a year, losing over $50 million this month, following the $54 million theft in June 2024. This brings the total losses to over $100 million. The five major security incidents in August 2025 included: a Bitcoin holder losing $91.4 million; BtcTurk losing $54 million; ODIN FUN losing $7 million; BetterBank losing $5 million; and CrediX Finance losing $4.5 million.

Metaplanet, a Japanese listed company, announced that it has purchased an additional 1,009 bitcoins for a total of approximately 16.48 billion yen (approximately $112 million). 5. Shenzhen Futian Investment Holding issued RMB 500 million in RWA public offering digital bonds
On August 29th, the state-owned Shenzhen Futian Investment Holding Co., Ltd. issued a 500 million RMB offshore digital bond, "FTID001" (Fubi), in Hong Kong. The bond carries a coupon rate of 2.62% and a two-year term. This is a publicly offered RWA digital bond on the Ethereum blockchain. The bond, which has been listed on the Macau and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges, was led by GF Securities (Hong Kong), which provided exclusive blockchain technical support, and co-underwritten by CMB International, CICC, and Orient Securities.
6. Japan Post Bank plans to issue digital currency DCJPY in fiscal 2026
Japan Post Bank, one of Japan's largest banks by deposits, plans to issue a digital currency, DCJPY, in fiscal 2026. The currency will support instant conversions between savings accounts and DCJPY accounts and can be used to purchase digital assets such as security tokens (STs) and NFTs. This initiative aims to activate its 190 trillion yen (approximately $1.29 trillion) in deposits and attract younger users. The bank is also considering supporting local governments in distributing subsidies through DCJPY.

Nvidia announced its second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, reporting revenue of $46.74 billion, a 56% year-over-year increase, slightly exceeding the $46.23 billion forecast. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) were $1.05, a 54% year-over-year increase. Data center revenue was $41.1 billion, slightly below the $41.25 billion forecast, but up 56% year-over-year. The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending August 23 was 229,000, in line with expectations of 230,000. The previous value was revised from 235,000 to 234,000.
The US core PCE price index reported an annualized rate of 2.9% in July, up from a revised 2.6% in the previous month and reaching its highest level since December 2024. The core PCE rose 0.3% on a monthly basis, 0.1% higher than the previous reading. The overall PCE rate was 2.6% on a yearly basis and 0.2% on a monthly basis.
The revised annualized quarterly rate of real GDP in the second quarter of the United States was 3.3%, in line with expectations of 3.10% and the previous value of 3.00%.
The University of Michigan's Consumer Confidence Index for August reached 58.2, down 5.7% from 61.7 in July and 14.3% year-over-year, its lowest level in nearly three months. The current economic conditions index fell to 61.7, while the expectations index was 55.9. The report noted that inflation concerns dragged down purchasing intentions for durable goods to a one-year low, with short-term and long-term inflation expectations rising to 4.8% and 3.5%, respectively.
Minutes from the ECB's July meeting showed officials viewed inflation risks as "broadly balanced."
