Coinbase Renames Wallet to Base App, Integrates Trading and Social Networking

Coinbase has just launched Base App, officially renaming Coinbase Wallet to an "all-in-one app" that combines social network, mini-apps, chat, payment, and trading – marking the beginning of a new chapter in the Base ecosystem.

At the "A New Day One" event, Coinbase introduced a new three-part structure:

• Base Chain: current Layer 2 network on Ethereum,

• Base Build: developer support toolkit,

• Base App: user gateway to access onchain services.

From July 16, users on the waiting list will be able to test the beta version. Base App has an integrated Farcaster social network, where users can Tokenize posts through Zora, receive tips, revenue rewards, and weekly interaction rankings. Users can also track friends' transactions in real-time and swap tokens directly in the feed.

The app also integrates hundreds of mini-apps such as games, prediction markets, USDC payments with a single NFC touch, and an encrypted XMTP chat system that allows content sharing, communication with AI, or sending money.

Upon registration, users will receive a Base Account, a smart wallet usable across multiple apps and blockchains. Coinbase also introduced Base Pay – a new payment service allowing near-instant USDC transfers. Shopify sellers can activate it from Wednesday, and US consumers will receive 1% cashback at the end of the year. (Users in EU and Canada are not yet supported for the app's bonus feature.)

Coinbase stated that their goal is to make the onchain experience as simple as opening an app, allowing eligible users to post, trade, and earn money without intermediaries. The expansion phase will be gradually implemented after the beta, and developers are invited to integrate "Sign in with Base" into their products.

This information was revealed after Coinbase announced several new development steps for its blockchain segment, including recruiting the team behind the Opyn options trading protocol and partnering with Perplexity AI to integrate real-time crypto data.
